My name is Tim Lane and I am the Creative Director of Penguin Random House UK. Shortly after joining in 2019, I built a new, award-winning in-house multidisciplinary team: Penguin Creative.
Penguin Creative is a multidisciplinary team consisting of designers, video producers, staff photographers, UX/UI Designers and production coordinators. My role is to oversee the visual direction of the Penguin brand online and beyond, using the skills of my team to drive brand identity, editorial direction and online engagement.
In the time I have been at Penguin, I have re-designed the Penguin brand online, including Penguin.co.uk. This has seen clicks to retail increase by 46% while also increasing the quality of our editorial offering online. Since I relaunched our YouTube channel in November 2019, subscribers have grown from 30K to 180K. Monthly channel views have risen from 150K to 2.5m.
I have directed a series of Penguin branded campaigns, as well as a series of high profile audiobook campaigns such as Escape to the Discworld for Penguin Audio. All the campaigns I have directed have over indexed on the metrics set.
In our first year, Penguin Creative were named the Best In-House Design Team at the Design Week Awards, 2020.
Previously, I was the Art Director of BuzzFeed UK and have also worked with Facebook, Twitter, Universal, ShortList, NME and many others. An award winning Director, Illustrator and Designer, I have vast experience across digital, video, animation and print.
I was a judge at the D&AD Awards in 2021 and the Design Week Awards in 2022.
